Enjoy a Family Day Out in Battersea
If you’re thinking about taking a trip to London, whether it’s to treat the family over the summer holidays, or you want a weekend away to celebrate a milestone, Battersea has far more to offer than a tour of the historic power station. In recent years it’s undergone considerable regeneration and is now a hive of activity. It offers everything from designer boutiques and independent coffee shops to exciting attractions, beautiful parks and art galleries. This Southwest London Suburb is the perfect destination for the traveller looking for culture, history, and quiet open spaces.
Read on for tips on how to make the most of an enjoyable break to Battersea with family, friends, or alone.
Enjoy the Beauty of the Outdoors
On a beautiful day, there is nothing like making the most of the outdoors, and Battersea has a number of incredible parks, some with historical significance for the Regency romance lover, while others provide fun for all ages in the form of a zoo, elevated fun zone, lakes, promenade and sculptural exhibits.
Battersea Park has long been believed to be the most interesting of London’s many parks, and it’s easy to see why. If you’re looking for somewhere to take the children that will keep them entertained, this should definitely be on the list. Covering more than 200 acres, and located on the south bank of the River Thames, Battersea Park has several diverse gardens, where everything from incredibly scented herbs to rare orchids grow.

Of course, if you’re looking for a little more excitement you can head to the Children’s Zoo where more than 100 animals including cute Capuchin monkeys and intimidating Brazilian black tarantulas can be observed living their every day lives.
You can also find the exhilarating Go Ape in the park, where the more daring can walk high ropes, slide down zip lines and test their puzzle solving skills in an escape room.
Enjoy Bridgerton? Love delving into the history of Regency balls and all the scandal associated with them? Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens was once the place to see and be seen. A place where the famous and infamous of the day, including Handel, Casanova and Rossini, would gather to enjoy an evening of dining, arts and live music, today it’s a beautiful green open space full of flowers, meadow grasses, trees and Vauxhall City Farm.

Enjoy a Day of Retail Therapy
Battersea is a great spot if you’re planning on a day of retail therapy, and at the recently regenerated Battersea Power Station you can find a whole day of entertainment. With more than 150 shops such as Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Zara, and Abercrombie & Fitch, fun and interactive brands including an official LEGO store with in-store build-your-own LEGO figures and the independent Battersea Book Shop where many book-related events are hosted and a great selection of books for all audiences are at home on the shelves.
Battersea Power Station isn’t only about the shopping though. Movie goers can enjoy an afternoon watching the latest releases on the big screen with a choice of two cinemas, while the more adventurous can take a trip in Lift 109, a glass lift that travels to the top of one of the power station’s chimneys.
The power station is also home to a number of restaurants, fast food places and cafes, where you can enjoy a great coffee, a quick snack or a full gourmet meal. You can find the eateries in both turbine halls, some are impressive stands, while others have large storefronts. The food spots at Battersea Power Station include Gordon Ramsey’s Bread Street Kitchen, award-winning Indian restaurant Dishoom, smoothie spot Joe & the Juice and popular eco-friendly coffee shop Grind.

Spend an Afternoon with Dinosaurs
A fun way to spend a rainy afternoon, especially for dinosaur lovers and fans of the popular spectacle that is the Jurassic Park franchise. Jurassic World: The Experience offers guests the opportunity to walk through the iconic Jurassic Park gates that were made famous in the movies, and come face to face with predators, gentle giants and baby dinosaurs that featured in the franchise, all created using realistic animatronic technology.
